Make your own Egg Breakfast Sandwich

Description

When eating out isn’t an option recreate the magic of a classic Egg McMuffin at home! With a toasted English muffin, savory Canadian bacon, a cooked egg, and melty cheese, this simple and delicious recipe delivers all the flavor you love—right from your own kitchen.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 English muffin, split in half
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 slice of Canadian bacon (or any thinly sliced ham)
  • 1 slice of your favourite cheese
  • 1 tablespoon of butter or margarine
  • Nonstick cooking spray
  • Optional: salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Toast the Muffin:
Split your English muffin in half and toast it until golden brown. Spread a thin layer of butter or margarine on each side while it’s still warm.

  2. Cook the Canadian Bacon:
Heat a skillet over medium heat and lightly brown the Canadian bacon on both sides for about 1–2 minutes. Set aside.

  3. Fry the Egg:

    • Spray the skillet with nonstick cooking spray and reduce the heat to low-medium.
    • For that classic round egg shape, use an egg ring (or a well-washed mason jar lid!) in the skillet. Crack the egg into the ring and lightly break the yolk with a fork. Season with salt and pepper if you like.
    • Add a tablespoon of water to the skillet and cover it with a lid. This steams the egg, cooking it evenly. Cook for about 3–4 minutes or until the yolk is firm to your liking.
  4. Assemble the Sandwich:

    • Start with the bottom half of the toasted muffin.
    • Layer on the Canadian bacon, the cooked egg, and the slice of cheese.
    • Top with the muffin’s other half.
  5. Optional Step for a Meltier Cheese:
Wrap your assembled sandwich in foil and place it in a warm oven (around 225°F) for 2–3 minutes. This step lets the cheese melt perfectly and warms everything up together.

Tips for the Best Results

  • No egg ring? Use a small ramekin or cut both ends off a clean tuna can to DIY one at home.
  • Boost Nutrition: Swap the butter for olive oil and use whole wheat English muffins for more fibre. Add a slice of fresh tomato for extra vitamins!
  • Batch cooking idea: Prep several at once, wrap them in foil, and store them in the freezer. Reheat in the oven at 350°F for about 20 minutes or until warm and gooey.
