This week our team of Registered Dietitian Nutritionists have put together a kid friendly meal plan that has delicious meals ideas that everyone can enjoy! Having a plan for your meals can save you time and the hassle of not knowing what to eat at mealtimes.

Are mealtimes a battle for you at home? If so, here are two tips on how to make mealtimes with your kids more enjoyable and reduce picky eating!

Family nutrition tip #1: Prepare one meal for the entire family. Preparing separate meals for selective eaters at home can be stressful and doesn’t help children learn to eat a variety of foods.  Try to offer food in the correct texture and size of pieces for your child. Remember it is the parent or caregiver’s job to offer the food, and it is your child’s decision whether they will eat or not. Your child will be more willing to try new foods if she knows she will not get her favourite foods when she refuses dinner.

Family nutrition tip #2: Avoid distractions. Meals and snacks should be served away from distractions like the television or computer. Mealtime is for eating and interacting with the family. Do not have toys at the table or on your child’s tray. Leave toys, books, television and music for playtime before or after a meal.
